The marquise cut - or, “navette,” was popularized in the 18th century as a design that references the hull of a ship. It evokes an antique aesthetic, though it serves equally beautifully in contemporary setting styles. Care should be taken to protect the peaked ends of the diamond, and there can be dramatic differences to how the gems are proportioned. It is therefore important to examine these cuts in person to ensure the specific shape works for your design goals.
